Education & Awards

Queensland Music Festival employs highly skilled artists and musicians to work closely with communities and councils, nurturing ongoing relationships.

We develop and deliver bespoke musical and multi-artform projects, skills development workshops and offer year-round music programs in Indigenous communities.

Our Youth Touring arm ensures that children in regional Queensland have access to the performing arts; increasingly recognised the world over as an indispensable aspect of education.

Cape York Music Program

Queensland Music Festival transforms the lives of children in far north Queensland through the Cape York Music Program (CYMP). CYMP offers access to exceptional music education to students in the remote indigenous communities of Aurukun, Coen and Hope Vale.

Score IT!

Score IT! welcomes students from across the state to put their film composition skills to the ultimate test. This free to enter competition challenges students in a practical environment, offering real world experience by preparing an original composition to accompany a short animation film.

On Song

On Song is a songwriting program for young Queenslanders and attracts the next generation of great singer-songwriters.

Six aspiring musicians (soloists or duos) aged 12-18 will be given the chance to develop their songwriting skills in a one-of-a-kind mentorship with award-winning Australian musician Jack Carty. In addition, winners will receive a RØDE AI-1 Complete Studio Kit to help them hone their craft, as well as the incredible opportunity to perform at a popular Brisbane music venue.

Carol Lloyd Award

The Carol Lloyd Award is presented to an emerging female identifying singer-songwriter, who resides in Queensland. The prize includes a $15,000 grant to either record a full-length album or record and tour an EP.

The award gives recipients a head start in their career, the means to broaden their experience within the music industry, and helps them to realise their goals as an emerging artist.

Youth Touring

Youth Touring continues the Queensland Arts Council legacy of over 50 years of touring arts experiences that ignite creativity and imagination, and allows access to quality performances for Queensland students far and wide.

Youth Touring is proudly presented by Queensland Music Festival and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
