Jeremy Marou is a musician, youth worker and grandnephew of land rights champion, Eddie 'Koiki' Mabo. He is Torres Strait Islander heritage and grew up playing music in church every Sunday. Jeremy is one half of Australian Rock duo, ‘Busby Marou’, that has been numbered on the ARIA charts and on the Australian Artist charts. In 2010, the band won the Indigenous Award in Brisbane’s Q Song Competition. Prior to starting the band, Jeremy was CEO of the Fitzroy Basin Elders' Committee. His key role was to liaise with landholders, mining companies, and other stakeholders of land care/ land management. Jeremy has also represented Queensland in touch football and previously played for the state in junior rugby league.
